I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how life often promises abundance but rarely hands it over without a fight. This truth hit me when I reflected on the story of Joshua and Caleb. When the Israelites were poised to enter Canaan, God had promised them a land flowing with milk and honey. Yet, the path wasn’t smooth. The twelve spies saw fortified cities, giant warriors, and obstacles that seemed insurmountable.
Joshua and Caleb saw the same obstacles, but they also saw the promise and they believed God was bigger than their impediments. They returned carrying a cluster of grapes so large it took two men to carry it. That cluster was a symbol of the fruit waiting on the other side of the fight.
I’ve experienced similar “giants” in my own life. There was a season when I had to make decisions that felt like I was stepping into a storm. The familiar path was safe, but it wasn’t moving me toward my purpose. I had to face fears I didn’t even know I carried, doubt, uncertainty, and the pressure of expectations all looming like giants in my mind.
Then there was the challenge of stepping fully into my purpose with Identity Center Inc. The vision was clear, but the path was cluttered with obstacles, resources, people, and timing all seemed to conspire against progress. There were days I wanted to turn back, but I had to lean into faith and push forward anyway.
Even the small moments of personal growth came with their own resistance. Trying to live authentically, confront old habits, and pursue clarity often felt like wading through thick mud. None of it came without struggle, yet every confrontation with a giant taught me something invaluable about patience, resilience, and faith.
The truth is simple: there’s no way to get to the grapes without dealing with your impediments. Avoiding the obstacles doesn’t make them disappear it only delays the fruit. But when you face the giants, lean into God, and step forward in faith, you realize something powerful: the fruit tastes sweeter on the other side of the fight.
Joshua and Caleb didn’t pretend the giants weren’t there. They acknowledged the challenge but trusted God’s promise more than the size of the obstacles. That’s exactly what we’re called to do. Your promise whether it’s personal growth, career breakthroughs, or spiritual clarity is on the other side of your giants.
So today, I’m learning to embrace the impediments in my life, not resent them. They are part of the journey, part of the preparation, part of the proof that the grapes waiting for me are worth it.
If you’re reading this, maybe you’re standing before your own Canaanite: a fear, a challenge, a decision you’ve been avoiding. Don’t shrink back. Step forward. Deal with the impediments. The grapes are waiting and they’re bigger and sweeter than you imagine.
